Making Stories Memorable

What kinds of things make a story memorable?

"Humor."
"Connecting with viewers"
"Sensationalism"
"Thought provoking"

These were just some of the suggestions shouted out by the student participants, when Preston Rudie asked that very question.

"The first thing..." said Rudie, "is that your story must have focus."

It's important to narrow down your story to keep readers engaged and memorable.

"The next thing... are surprises," he went on to say. The story has to draw the reader in, as Rudie describes with the term "power line."

Rudie went on to describe the importance of conveying emotion, character, special moments, educating the reader, and natural sound.

"Strong beginning and a strong ending," he also emphasized. "I cannot stress that enough."

To emphasize these points, he showed various news clips portraying humorous, joyful, and even heartrending stories.

The session was fittingly emotional, but nonetheless informative and engaging.
