Writing Headlines with Ann Glover

Ann Glover suggests writing headlings in 5 - 7 words. In her session, she outlined seven tricks to help come up with the catchiest words to bring readers into an article.

Her tricks of the trade include:

  • Puns/Word play
  • Assonance or rhyming
  • Personification
  • Alliteration
  • Foreshadowing
  • Onomotapoeia
  • Plain Language
After a brief overview of these tips, we got to practice coming up with headlines on our own. The session was interactive and a lot of fun. We had some great laughs over the participants' good -- and not-so-good -- headlines.
